Advancing Love through Science, Strategy & Soul

Welcome to the World Love Forum

Mission

The mission of the World Love Forum (WLF)  is to promote the application of love as a public health intervention and grow a grass-roots movement to increase the number of actions informed by compassion, empathy and kindness. Through this, our aim is to stop the quiet desperation that the American philosopher Henry David Thoreau said afflicts “the mass of men”…and women, children and youth.

“Love makes the seemingly impossible - possible.” Dr. SD Shanti

This will be done through the application of love as a public health intervention intended to reduce violence, depression, isolation, social disconnection, social discord and associated forms of widespread human distress and misery.

Within the WLF, we view love through the lens of psychology - as prosocial action. We envision love as focused action informed by compassion, empathy and kindness, with the goal of alleviating the suffering and promoting the wellbeing of people.

We view love as an essential psychological nutrient for human growth, development, and ongoing wellbeing throughout the lifespan.

Benefits to Society

When individuals and organizations advance love in the world, there will be a reduction in interpersonal violence, psychological distress, bullying, hate crimes, isolation and despair.

Why Love?

We are faced with ongoing challenges and threats to individual and collective health and wellbeing. We are called to innovate in keeping up with the problems of our time.

Love is one of the most powerful forces known to humankind. It is an integral part of our psyche, our biology and our communities.

The WLF aims to create a synergy between love and public health, both of which are powerful in their own right. This innovation offers us a promising way forward that draws from science and values that are common to people everywhere.

About the World Love Forum

The World Love Forum (WLF)  is a global non profit organization based in Switzerland that arises out of over two decades of Dr. SD Shanti’s work in public health and more specifically in violence prevention and mental health promotion. It is one of her innovations in advancing the health and wellbeing of populations globally.

About the Founder

Dr. S.D. Shanti is a multidisciplinary public health scientist and practitioner who dedicated her life to ending the epidemic of violence which, according to the World Health Organization, affects one in every three women, one in every two children, around the world, and countless youth and men.

She developed cost-effective, research-based  innovations in response to the global data on violence and depression, and in response to the pessimism that various experts shared with her in private. Her innovations were developed when she was at Stanford University, and have been reviewed by the Violence Prevention Alliance of the World Health Organization and by leading behavioral scientists.
